Dear Bryant,

Thank you very much for your letter of the 28th November about the remittance which has been received by the War Office from the British Red Cross Society.

In my letter of the 31st August 1950, I said that no further action was required by the Colonial Office. This was correct. War Office and Treasury have taken the action and we are now presenting you with the results! All you have to do is to put them in your pocket. I think in fact there can be no question that any department other than the Colonial Office should bring this sum to account and, as you know, it was originally paid to the international Red Cross out of Colonial Office funds. I therefore confirm that the sum of £115,660 2s. 2d. now held in a War Office suspense account should be brought to account by your department as an exchequer extra receipt.

Yours sincerely,
